Jesus said, "Neither this man or his parents sinned. It happened so God's works might be seen in him."
Then Jesus spit on the ground and made some mud. He put it on the man's eyes and said, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam."
The man did as Jesus commanded and he came back seeing. This is fulfillment of what Isaiah said at least seven hundred years before. "In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of the gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see" (Isiaiah 29:18), and "Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing for joy, for water will gush in the wilderness, and streams in the desert" (Isiah 35:5-6).
A huge commotion rose among the people who saw the healing of man born blind. His neighbors denied it. His parents were afraid to admit this was their son because they thought by doing so, they would be kicked out of the synagogue. And since the day the healing took place was the Sabbath, the Pharisees rejected Jesus'. They said He couldn't be from God.
Later Jesus asked the man born blind, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
Who is He, Sir, that I may believe in Him?"
"I who speak to you am He."
"I believe, Lord!" he said and worshiped Him.
Then Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, in order that those who do not see will see and those who do see will become blind."
Think About It
I have identified with the man born blind, not physically, but spiritually. I was born blind to the truth, the things of God, things about Jesus and salvation. But when I was deep in sin, thanks be to God, I had sense enough to cry out to God. He heard me and reached down into the pit of my despair and loved me. I began to read the Bible and He opened my eyes to see things I didn't see before. What about you? What happens when you read the Bible? I hope you experience God's amazing love. If not, Jesus stands at the door of your heart waiting for you to invite Him into your life. You will never ever be disappointed if you do.
Pray About It
Lord Jesus, I pray for the people reading Your message, that they would know your love and compassion. I pray that they talk to someone about it and confirm the reality of Your presence in their lives. Amen.
