While the world waits for Christmas, a day that celebrates the first coming of Jesus, Christians wait for His second coming.
Jesus told what it would be like. It will come after terrible times when the sun or moon will not shine. The stars will fall from the sky and the celestial powers will be shaken.
He said, "The the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other" Matthew 24:30-31.
Jesus warned about false Messiahs, men who will say they are Jesus. But they will not be able to come on the clouds with the angels. Don't be fooled.
Think About It
Why do you think the peoples of the earth will be sad? The believers will rejoice. Only those who chose not to love Jesus will be sad. They will know it's too late to change their mind.
Pray About It
Dear Lord Jesus, we know you are not slow in coming, but that you want all to come to love you. May it be so. May none perish. To your glory and honor. Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come. Amen.
One day when the disciples were hanging out with Jesus, they asked Him, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Sometimes I wonder how Jesus' friends could ask who was the greatest in heaven, when He was right there with them? But people are like that. They struggle and strive for the most important positions and they want to be recognized as people who are special.
Jesus took a little child and said, "I tell you the truth, unless you change [from wanting to be important] and become like children [He meant innocent and trusting], you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:1-5 emphasis mine).
Jesus also said, "Do not look down on these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven" (Matthew 18:10). Wow! That means that God loves children so much He has angels watching over them.
Think About It
Does this Scripture mean that we should become childish? No, child-like is not childish. God wants us to trust Him the way children trusts their parents. He came to provide for our forgiveness on the cross. As forgiven people, we put away our sin nature and put on innocence. When I experienced God's love the first time--when I knew He suffered and died on the cross for me, I knew He forgave me. Since then, I have not wanted to do anything that God doesn't want me to do. I've wanted to trust and obey Him more and more each day.
Pray About It
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for taking away our sin. Teach us how to live for you. Help us to make good decisions. Amen.
