Blog - Talking with Jesus |
![]() People wonder where Jesus is and why He's taking so long. More than two thousand years ago the Pharisees asked Him when His kingdom would come. He said, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is'" (Luke 17:21). Jesus warned His disciples not to listen to people who said these things. Then He described what it would be like. "The Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other" (Luke 17:24). He said it would be like the days of Noah when people were eating, drinking and marrying. Then the flood came without warning. It will be like the days of Lot. People were eating, drinking, buying and selling. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed the city. Jesus said, "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed" (Luke 17:30). Think About It Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me" (John 14:6). We don't have to wonder what it will be like when He comes again. He gave the answer. We don't have to wonder when it will happen. Jesus said no one will know, but He warned us to be ready. By loving God and others we will be ready when He comes. We will be watchful yet compassionate like Jesus. Pray About It O Lord, we don't know what the future holds. That is so hard for us. But we know You hold our future, that You are not late in coming but that you want all to be ready. Teach us how to discern the times and be wise about what happens in the world. Amen.

![]() During the Advent season, many Christians celebrate Jesus' words about His promise to come again. What a glorious appearing that will be! However, it comes with Jesus' words of warning. Make every effort to enter through the narrow door because I tell you, many will try to enter and won't be able once the home owner gets up and shuts the door. Then you will stand outside and knock on the door, saying, "Lord, open up for us!" He will answer you, "I don't know you or where you're from." Then you will say, "We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets!" But He will say, "I tell you, I don't know you or where you're from. Get away from Me, all you workers of unrighteousness!" Luke 13:22-28 Think About It Is it enough to go to church, listen to God's word, and serve in the name of the Lord? Jesus said unless we have love, all our good deeds are as filthy rags. This is a good time to evaluate our motives. Do we reach out to the poor and needy people because it's the thing to do, or do we help them out of love? Pray About It Lord Jesus, we love you. Teach us to love others as You do and to use the opportunities you give us to reach out to those who need Your love. Amen. |
