Parable of Two Sons (Matthew 21:28-3)

"What do you think?" asked Jesus. "A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'My son, go, work in the vineyard today.'

"The son answered, 'I don't want to!' but later he changed his mind and did what his father said.

"The man went to the other son and said the same thing. That son said, 'Why, certainly, Dad,' but later he changed his mind and didn't go to work.'

"Which one did his father's will?" asked Jesus. If you said the first one, you are right. Has your dad ever asked you to do something and you hesitated or disobeyed? I did too. What about your heavenly Father? Have you treated His calling the same as with your earthly father? Sadly, I have. Since then, I learned that God loves me more than I ever dreamed and He only wants the best for me. He wants to bless my socks off! Yours too!

Jesus said to the temple elders, "I assure you: Tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you! John came to you and you did not believe him, yet the tax collectors and prostitutes did."

Think About It
How can you learn not to resist doing God's will? Begin by doing what your earthly father says. Could you be like John, sharing the truth about God? Your friends need to know His love, mercy and forgiveness. Think of three ways you can talk about God this week. Pick one and do it.

Pray About It
Lord Jesus, thank you for the story about the man and his two sons. Help me to do what my parents say, and to do your will. Amen.

I enjoyed teaching elementary Sunday school for more than twenty years. This led me to write devotions for families that will teach them to pray together and for each other. That is how Talking With Jesus was born. Nothing is too big or too small for our Lord. He wants to be our closest Friend. We can trust Him with anything that concerns us.
