Blog - Talking with Jesus |
![]() Jesus and His disciples entered Bethany. Martha invited them to her home and Mary, her sister, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to every word He said. Martha got busy preparing a dinner for deity. I can imagine how she felt. So many things to do. So little time.Things had to be perfect. Overwhelmed, she came to Jesus. "Lord, there is so much to do. Tell Mary to get up and help me." I think I might have said the same. Jesus answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her" Luke 10:41 NIV). Well! Martha must have thought. How can this be? Did she want to throw in the towel? I don't think so. While she might have been stressed over preparing food for Jesus and the disciples, she loved serving. Those who visited her experienced her hospitality. Her mistake this time was in the worrying. Worry distracts and divides. Worry is assuming responsibilities God never gave Martha or any of us. Think About It Jesus said, "Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Matthew 6:25-26 NIV). "Do not worry," is easier said than done. So what is the answer? Paul says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:6-7 NIV). Pray About It O Lord, help me to remember to pray about everything and worry about nothing, for You are in control and I will trust you. Amen.
