No Secrets

If you had the best news in the world, would you keep it a secret? I wouldn't. I would want everyone to know.

We have the best news, the good news that God loves the world. That means your friends and family. If they don't know, they need to know. Who will tell them?

Statistics show that people who come to know God in a personal relationship, come because a friend or family member talked to them and prayed for them. It happened in Jesus' day too.

One day John the Baptist was with his disciples and saw Jesus pass by. He said, "Look! The Lamb of God" (John 1:36). Andrew, one of John's friends, followed Jesus. Then he went to get his brother, Simon (also called Peter). "We have found the Messiah!" Many years of prophesies foretold about the Messiah. When Andrew recognized Him, he couldn't wait to tell his brother.

The next day, Jesus found Philip and said, "Follow me!" and he did. He found his friend, Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about, Jesus the son of Joseph from Nazareth."

Nathanael said, "Nazareth? Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Philip convinced him and he went to see Jesus.

"Here is a true Israelite. No deceit is in him," said Jesus (John 1:47).

"How do you know me?"

"I saw you under the fig tree."

Nathanael recognized Jesus as the Son of God.

"You believe because I said I saw you under the fig tree," Jesus said. "You will see even greater things" (John 1:50-51).

Think About It
When we follow Jesus, that is the way it is. We first trust our friends or family who tell us about Jesus. Then we check it out and believe the truth for ourselves. We cannot keep God's love a secret. We want everyone to know how special He makes us feel, so we tell our friends. Do you have someone you would like to tell but don't know how? Tell Jesus and He will help.

Pray About It
Lord Jesus, thank you for showing me so much love. Thank you for your word, the truth. I pray for an opportunity to tell ______________ about your love. I pray that you would prepare her heart to hear how you love her. Help me to have the right words. Amen.

I enjoyed teaching elementary Sunday school for more than twenty years. This led me to write devotions for families that will teach them to pray together and for each other. That is how Talking With Jesus was born. Nothing is too big or too small for our Lord. He wants to be our closest Friend. We can trust Him with anything that concerns us.
