Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men" (Matthew 5:13).
Salt has more than one physical property. It makes food taste better. I crave even more salt when I don't feel well. That's because of helps in healing. Salt also preserves food. It's used in meat, canned or frozen food to make it last longer. We can be salt in our world by encouraging and inspiring others to love God.
Jesus also said, "You are the light of the world . . .let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:14, 16).
We shine the light of God's good news, the news of His forgiveness and salvation, when we reach out to those in need. Do you know someone who is hungry or thirsty or lonely? Talk to your parents about how you might help someone who is going through a hard time.
Think About It
We can be salt and light in a dark world by not blending in with our surroundings. Just as seasoning brings out the best flavor in our food, we can affect others in a positive way.
Pray About It
Father God, show us how to be salt and light in our world. Give us confidence and strength to carry out your will. Amen.
