Thousands of years old, En Gedi is an oasis not far from Jericho in the middle of a hot, dry desert. The Bible refers to these beautiful waterfalls and springs as "Living Water." The sounds of families splashing in the waterfalls and the pools below is glorious. The cool water is refreshing.
David, a man after God's own heart, found refuge here when he ran from King Saul who was out to kill him. The ancient village at En Gedi produced Frankincense from the balsam trees, which had healing powers.
Jesus is all these to me:
Living Water refreshing my soul.
A refuge from the troubles of this world.
A healer of my spiritual and physical infirmities.
Jesus referred to Living Water when He talked with the Woman at the Well. He said to her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you Living Water" (John 4:10) and "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life" (John 4:13).
Think About It
The Living Water Jesus gives is a forever life with Him. The Woman at the Well didn't get it at first, but when she did, she ran into the city to tell others. They came out to meet Jesus empty and returned filled with the hope of eternal life. It's possible for everyone in our world too. Will you tell someone today?
Pray About It
Lord God, thank you for the hope of spending eternity with You. Help us to share Your gift as the Woman at the Well did. Make us more like Jesus. Amen.
