Blog - Talking with Jesus |
![]() Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their money into the temple treasury. He also saw a widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth," He said. "This poor widow has put in more than all of them. For all these people have put in gifts out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on" Luke 21:1-4 Many in the temple gave the leftovers of their income. Imagine how sad that made God. He provided abundantly for them, and they kept the biggest part of their money for themselves. Yet this widow who had little income and few resources, trusted God for her food, clothing and shelter. She gave all she had to live on. Think About It Jesus gave all He had, His own life for each of us so we wouldn't have to die for our sins but experience forgiveness and eternal life with Him. The widow set an example for us to follow. Even though she was poor, she gave as generously as possible. She had no leftovers like the others, and God honored her complete gift. A good time to start practicing generosity is now--when you are young. Establish this God-honoring discipline when you are young and when you are old, you will still please the Lord. Pray About It Heavenly Father, thank you for recording this wonderful story of giving in your Word. Help us to remember that you gave everything--your own Son, and He gave everything--His life for us. Teach us to give in ways pleasing to you whether it is with our money, time or talents. Amen.
