Some people describe the Old Testament as "law" and the New Testament as "grace." Don't be deceived. Jesus said, "Don't assume that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For I assure you: Until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or one stroke of a letter will pass from the law until all things are accomplished" (Matthew 5:17-18).
Without the law or the commandments we would not know how much we need Jesus. Even when we try our hardest to be good, the law shows us how we fall short. We cannot be good enough on our own and we need Jesus. That is why He came. The result of sin is death and Jesus came to save us from death and give us eternity with Him and the Father.
Think About It
Have you said something that wasn't exactly true? Did you talk back to your parents or disobey them? Have you had bad thoughts about a friend? Tell Jesus and ask Him to forgive you. Maybe you can't think of anything you've done that's bad. Ask Jesus to show you.
Pray About It
Lord Jesus, look into my heart and if there is anything there that keeps me from drawing close to you, bring it to my mind. Forgive me and help me live for you. Amen.
