Where is Your Treasure? (Matthew 6:21)

Did you know that Jesus discussed how to manage money more than He talked about Heaven or Hell? He said, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also ," (Matthew 6:19-21).

The way we manage money is a test of our faith. Ask yourself, "Does God get my first and best or what is left at the end of my day or the end of my paycheck?" Believe it or not, freedom comes from putting God first.  We are prone to worry about what we will wear or what we will eat. Jesus said, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well," (Matthew 6:33).

Think About It
So how do we store up treasure un heaven? The answer is in our priorities. Do we put God first in our lives? Does He get the first moments of our day? Does He get the first fruits of our income or the leftovers? Be sure God does not need our money, but He wants what it represents--our hearts. He knows that where our treasure is, that's where our hearts are.

Pray About It
Holy Father, purge our hearts of anything that takes first place in our hearts if it is not You. We need your help and we trust that You will guide us into righteousness even with our money. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

I enjoyed teaching elementary Sunday school for more than twenty years. This led me to write devotions for families that will teach them to pray together and for each other. That is how Talking With Jesus was born. Nothing is too big or too small for our Lord. He wants to be our closest Friend. We can trust Him with anything that concerns us.
