A dream of a life time took me to the Holy Lands where I saw lots of caves, cisterns and ruins of historical cities. This is an entrance to a cave during the time of Jesus. Pagans believed it was the Gates of Hades [Hell]. It was in this area that Jesus had this conversation with His disciples.
"Who do people say the Son of Man is?" asked Jesus.
"Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets," they replied.
"But what about you?" He asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hades [Hell] will not overcome it" (Matthew 16:13-20).
Think About It
Our world today has many weird ideas about what is true, just like in Jesus' time on earth. Some of the things people say make sense, but how will we know if they are true? Like Peter, we have to stay tuned into Jesus, know His word and His character. These help us to make wise choices.
Pray About It
Father God, thank you for Jesus, your word and the Holy Spirit. Help us to have wise and discerning hearts so we will be pleasing to you in all we do. Amen.
