Genesis 2:4-7
“These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground— then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”
When the Lord provided growth to the plants on the earth, he gave rain. Before he gave life to them, he spread mist over the land that wouldn't support the plants of the earth.
As I was reading this, the Lord gave me a vision about faith. To mist would be to lightly keep something moist, barely keeping it alive. To provide full rain would be to give full growth to something, keeping it alive long term.
Then I wondered: what days am I letting my flesh win over my spirit by not allowing the Lord to provide growth to my spirit? What days am I barely going by without God?
How many times do we try to apply “mist” to our faith instead of growing it with rain?
While mist can do a little bit, no shrub or plant actually grew because of the lack of rain and the work of man God had assigned on the earth.
Sometimes, if we’re being honest, we try to get by with a little bit each day of God. A lot of times I’ve had my own plan to do my own thing, thinking if I read one verse a week and regard it once that it’s enough to feed my faith.
I placed mist on the “plant” of my faith but it wasn’t enough intentional growth.
We follow the king of the universe! He loves us, and he created us for a deep connection with Him. I want to live in the fullness of his love and be on fire for him. I pray that you will remember that without Christ you can do nothing. That he is your savior and he desires to grow you in his strength and help, not just barely pass you by every day.
God provides the growth in us. He desires to be closer to us. Let's seek his faithful love today, and he will provide the growth.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
(John 15:4-7)
With mist comes slight growth. With rain comes the full growth.
