"I am the light of the world: He that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." -John 8:12
John 8:12 describes the stark difference between following Jesus and following the world. What a person walks in, or lives in, consumes, and takes attention to will determine their future.
If we walk in the world, we're walking in darkness, no matter how light it may seem. The world offers many things to follow, as we can all think of some, but Jesus tells us to follow Him, for He is light alone.
He will welcome everyone into His light who is willing to follow Him. The Bible also says that not one person is perfect- we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but that doesn't mean we have to live in sin.
If you feel down, like you've been walking in darkness instead of light and may not know what light even feels like today, the one thing that can bring you to light and freedom is Jesus. He cares for you no matter who you are or what you've done.
We all look to other things for happiness, peace, and comfort, but I pray today that you will be blessed with Jesus' light that brings true joy, peace, and comfort.
If this is you today, pray this prayer:
"God, you are perfect. You are the definition of light, and following you means I don't have to walk in darkness anymore. Help me to remember that I am born into this world, but it is not my home. I long to live in your light from now on. Please clothe me in your peace and goodness, and pull me away from the darkness and emptiness of this world. Help me to spread your light to others this week as well. In Jesus name I pray, Amen."
