Lies that People Tell Christians: What the Bible Actually Says-Part three

Welcome back to the third part of my series of uncovering lies about the Bible and Christians! If you haven't read up on my other two parts of this series, you can find the first part here and the second part here. ✨

I hope that these truths encourage you today.

1. You're doing more work for God by speaking in front of big crowds. Smaller services for the Lord aren't as important.

The positions on stage and behind a microphone for the Lord are very important, but so are the ones that no one sees. The times you are serving and encouraging others are seen by Him and as Christians are just as valuable. God used people in front of crowds, and he also used people on their own to work for his glory.

Moses was called by God to speak in front of people about Him, and he didn't want to. Paul was called by God on a lonely path one day and called to minister to others write for Him- something he wasn't used to.

God uses others in completely different ways, and that makes yours none less important.

”“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.“

‭‭-Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Remember to not compare the amount of people that you have blessed, brought to, or been used by God to further His kingdom with the amount of people that others have helped- God values both of you.

2. A season of loneliness probably means that God is mad at me.

When we go through lonely seasons, it can be easy to ask God all the time where he is or where our community is. We often wonder if God is mad at us, is he punishing us, or if we are good enough. But what if I told you that the reason God places people in lonely seasons, or seasons of solitude, are for none of those reasons?

The times that Jesus spent alone in the gospels were spent with the Lord. The times that we spend alone are with the Lord if we seek Him and if we listen to Him if he seeks us. God wants to use this season that you are in, even if you feel alone or not good enough, to press into Him and grow closer to Him.

In the loneliest seasons of my life, I have found the most joy and peace in the Lord because He was there, and He was all that I needed. Some of the best lessons I learned were in my lonely seasons (and lonely seasons won't last forever!). So instead of wondering the things I mentioned above if you're in a lonely or quiet season, ask yourself if there's an area that God wants to grow closer to you in, or an area he wants to help you in.

Let's seek God when we feel alone in our season, or like no one around us sees our season. Lonely seasons have beautiful undertones in them that we don't initially see right away, but God is there.

"And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed." -Mark 1:35

3. If you talk about your feelings, then you aren't being a strong Christian.

I see a lot of conversations going like this. The person that tries to share their feelings ends up being pegged as weak or not faithful enough to the Lord, but to add my second point onto this one, Jesus cares about our feelings. We are not being too weak by talking to him or a confidant about our feelings and what is going on in our lives. Now, not to agree to gossiping and slandering others at all, but when a person shares what they feel with someone else, they aren't unfaithful- most of the time it means that they are an external processor and/or need community in what season of life they are in.

As Christians, we are to be like Jesus, but we can't 100% be Him, and he comforts us in our feelings. He comforts the sad, angry, nervous, ashamed, embarrassed, depressed, and overwhelmed person. He doesn't tell us to come back the day we're happy and strong, cup completely filled, because only He can fill our cups.

Let's not push people away for their emotions because they aren't "Representing a faithful Christian or representing a strong character" because when did emotions equal a lack of strength? When did we put the weight of being as strong as Jesus 100%, 24/7 on our shoulders? Let's comfort and listen to those who are feeling upset, nervous, overwhelmed, or depressed. Let's represent Jesus by doing this instead of telling someone to be more faithful or strong and tell them that Jesus is their strength.

"Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." -Psalm 55:22

4. A person needs to look fancy and acceptable to society in order to enter a church

How did this become a believable lie across the world? You don't have to buy a trendy and expensive outfit in order to walk into church and learn about the gospel.

While people love to dress up to worship the Lord, not everyone will, and that's ok. Some churches sadly look at nonbelievers (and Christians alike) with judgement if they aren't dressed for their standards.

While this doesn't excuse deliberate immodesty in the church at all, sometimes a casual and comfy outfit is all someone has. Let's treat everyone the same, no matter what they look like. Let's not smile at the rich and side eye the poor in church. Let's treat everyone equally like God wants us too. Let's focus on the gospel and loving others in church, not watching and comparing the clothing trends of the body of the church every Sunday morning.

"Do everything in love." - 1 Corinthians 16:14
