Words for Spirit Uplifting: Devotionals written by my Grandmother

Hi friends! This week I wanted to share some of my Granny's devotionals that she wrote in the past. I got to know my granny a little bit up until she passed away just over ten years ago now, and I've wished that I could have gotten to know her more.

A few months ago, I found a devotional that she had written and sold in the past, and I began to read some of her devotionals, and I loved all of them. She was very wise and obedient to the Lord, and she wasn't afraid to tell you anything!

Granny dedicated these devotionals to God for giving her the words to speak, and to her three children for believing in her. She hoped that her devotionals would help someone, and that someone might be you today!

1. Psalm 46:10

"Be still, and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the Earth."

Knowing you have prayed, God tells us to be still. Do nothing so He can do his job. Let God work through us- giving us those good and positive thoughts. He desires to work through us, so when you don't know what to do, do nothing.

God knows us from head to toe- sometimes we press on when it's time to let go and give this job into the Lord's hands. Our reward is not lost, God knows who did what. When Jesus was here on Earth, he didn't say, "I did this and that." No, He let the God of Heaven and Earth, His father, work his magic through Him.

That's where we have to be- behind the scenes. God will never forget us.

I love granny's desire to obey and follow God without being noticed or praised for it. She followed Jesus' teachings by placing herself in a humble position in her devotional by not talking about her accomplishments or how great of a Christian she is.

We can all be reminded today that God is strong enough on His own, and we can lean on him no matter what happens in our lives.

2. Psalm 49:1-2

"Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world. Both low and high, rich and poor together."

God doesn't care what kind of job you have. He wants your heart; He wants you to acquire wisdom on your journey.

It doesn't matter what you look like; God knows you are beautiful.

Our purpose is to love God and our neighbor. Ask God to help you love yourself so you can love other people.

Hanging around someone all the time is not always love. God's guidance is truth. Your friend, as you may call him, may be sending you down the wrong path.

Call on God today and come to know Him as your Savior. Pray and read God's word.

Granny took a lot of good wisdom and application from each verse that she placed in her devotional, and this one is one of my favorites. Sometimes, it's the short and simple yet piercing pieces of advice that we need in order to be reminded or encouraged of something, and in these verses, God speaks to everyone equally.

Granny didn't believe that anyone was better than the next person because they were richer or higher but follows God's teachings of impartiality in this passage.

3. Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

The man was so discouraged because the family was in such debt. He started reading Joshua where God said, "Don't be afraid, be strong wherever you go, I'm there."

We all get discouraged at one time or another in our lives. We have to be aware of hard situations, but God will go through our hard times with us. We always have to believe and trust God. His grace is there for us. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Praying will surround us with God's presence. He gives us a hug when we need it (Psalm 145).

Are you discouraged today? Have you been discouraged this week? Remember God's commandment to you. If God commands us of something, we can do it. It's hard to be strong and courageous, and sometimes this verse can sound scary, but we can rely on God's strength and courage for our hard situations.

4. Psalm 37:5

"Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this."

We are teaching our kids that debt is the way to go. "Get some credit, so you can have good standing." That's not God's way. He said, "Trust me and have faith in me. Pray for your salvation; be free from debt. "Good things in your life will come to pass if you will commit yourself to God.

We have to think positive thoughts. Faith is thinking positive thoughts that we can't even see. Faith and Spirit are like the wind. You can't see it, but you know it's there.

You can't physically see God with your eyes, but He's there. Just like the wind that she mentions, you can feel it's closeness even when it's not visible to the eye. Have faith that God is with you today, and every day in the future!

5. Hebrews 8:11

"Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such a High Priest who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the Heavens."

We can speak to God directly. We don't have to pay a telephone bill to talk to God. He is right beside us every minute of every day. He's ready for us to speak to Him. Take all of your troubles to Him. You have been hurt and he knows this. The problem will not get fixed in sixty seconds.

God's timing is perfect, ask God to give you ideas of how to help solve your problem. There are people around you somewhere worse off than you. Be thankful for every breath you take; be thankful your kids are ok and so smart. Thank God today.

This is your reminder to talk to God about your hardships, even if you don't feel like it. There are times when I don't feel like talking about all of my problems, and it can be hard to give it to God, but He is the only one that can truly help you through hard times in life. Thank the Lord we don't have a monthly bill for our relationship with God! We can talk to Him for free and we can feel His presence without charge!

I definitely miss my grandmother and wish that I could have gotten to know her more, but reading these devotionals from her makes me feel closer to God and also to her! In her writing, she displayed a great obedience and humble spirit and I learned that about her through these devotionals. I think that her wisdom from the Bible as well as her great personality can both be applicable to our daily lives. Love you Granny!
